Showing People They Matter at Every Turn: Pilot Team Members Give Back During Fall Volunteer Day

Pilot is a people-first company. We take care of our team members, our guests and the communities in which we live and work. Through Miles of Good, our community impact initiative, we put that commitment into action in a variety of ways, including volunteering our time and talents to nonprofit organizations.

In October, 696 Pilot team members from our office locations in Knoxville, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska; Orange, California and Roswell, Georgia participated in service projects with 65 nonprofit organizations for our Fall Volunteer Day. That’s 1,967 hours invested to make a positive difference in our communities. Here is a look at four projects that showcase some of the many ways our team members showed up and gave back.

Magnificat Houses

Serving Neighbors in Need

In Houston, Texas, team members volunteered at Magnificat Houses, which provides housing and support to people experiencing homelessness, hunger and mental illness. Team members helped cook and serve a meal and spent time organizing donated clothing and supplies. Dana Hernandez, analyst II, trading risk, said, “it was powerful to witness the goodness, joy and significant efforts of a great organization in our Houston community helping those most in need. It was a gift for them to allow us to be part of their efforts.”

Dolly Parton Children's Hosp

Bringing Smiles to Young Patients

At Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital in Knoxville, TN, team members spent time with patients receiving treatment in the oncology unit. Team members, the children and their families made bracelets, colored together, played bingo and Uno and handed out prizes to many excited children. “It was such a fun and meaningful experience,” said Olivia McKain, specialist I, internal communications. “We loved having the chance to bring a little extra joy to the kids and families we met.”

Special Olympics

Supporting Inclusive Sports

Pilot team members lent a helping hand to Special Olympics Texas (North Region) in Richland Hills by loading and unloading event equipment from a trailer and box truck. They also organized the warehouse, helping prepare the organization for an upcoming move to a new location. Lucas Mclean, account manager, commercial development, said his team had a wonderful time supporting a cause that “helps athletes feel valued, included and empowered. We were proud to represent the Pilot brand alongside this outstanding organization!”

Friends of the Smokies

Lending a Hand for a National Park

A Pilot volunteer team helped the Friends of the Smokies, an organization that works to preserve and protect the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, prepare for an upcoming road race fundraiser. They assembled race packets, including 1,000 tote bags of items for the runners, attached race medals to lanyards and sorted T-shirts at the organization’s Kodak, TN office. Corinne Siegelin, senior administrative assistant, said, “It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes work to prepare for a race! It was rewarding to contribute to that effort, and we truly enjoyed spending time with the Friends of the Smokies team.”

From serving meals and supporting young patients to helping athletes and assisting with fundraisers, Pilot team members made a meaningful impact during Fall Volunteer Day. These projects represent just a sample of the ways our company works to help strengthen the communities we call home.
